What to Look For in a Retirement Home
According to PBS, there are roughly 17,000 nursing homes in America. Furthermore, an estimated 1.6 million people live in those 17,000 nursing homes across the country. Retirement home living is a concept that is tough to grasp for some people, but must be understood for those who have to make the decision to move to an assisted living facility later in life.
When it comes time for a retirement home search, however, it should be noted that 26 percent of all nursing homes in the United States are non profit. Non profit senior communities simply provide care for the elderly, and cost is not an object for them, as they are in business to provide care, not to make money.
The average age for nursing home admission in America is 79 years old. For some people, assisted living doesn’t become a priority until they reach the age in which their independence starts to wane. In those cases, it is nice to be able to rely on a nursing home that can provide patients with healthy, nutritious meals and keep that part of their lives handled.
Choosing a retirement home is never easy, as all senior living facilities are different. However, a retirement home search will pay dividends, as it is always important to go into something prepared and knowledgeable on the subject.
