But, that being said, how can you decide on which one is best for you when there really are so many. According to PBS, there are roughly 17,000 nursing homes in America. Furthermore, an estimated 1.6 million people live in those 17,000 nursing homes across the country. Retirement home living is a concept that is tough to grasp for some people, but must be understood for those who have to make the decision to move to an assisted living facility later in life.

When it comes time for a retirement home search, however, it should be noted that 26 percent of all nursing homes in the United States are non profit. Non profit senior communities simply provide care for the elderly, and cost is not an object for them, as they are in business to provide care, not to make money.

The average age for nursing home admission in America is 79 years old. For some people, assisted living doesn’t become a priorit
