What is Reflux Testng?
Heart failure is one of the leading causes of death across the globe. Yet people can do a simple, effective, and cost-free test at home to test for heart failure, as demonstrated by the YouTube video “Testing the Hepatojugular Reflux.” It’s known as Hepatojugular Reflux testing or reflux testing for short. This test measures blood pressure in an essential vein in our neck.
By observing the movement of this vein when pressure is applied, doctors can detect certain conditions before they become fatal.
Is Reflux Testing Accurate
The test is pretty accurate, but doctors have found it somewhat challenging to obtain results from it as they are difficult to interpret. As such, other, more prevalent tests are conducted to determine a patient’s heart health. To complete the test, a patient must lie flat on their back to identify the internal jugular vein (IJV). The patient is then lifted to a 45° angle, and their head tilted slightly left. A doctor applies moderate pressure beneath the right rib cage and then proceeds to monitor waves or movement in the internal jugular vein (IJV).
The video mentioned visually describes how to conduct the test. When the jugular is raised, it can lead to heart failure, cardiac tamponade, fluid overload, or other health complications. It may be best to consult with a medical practitioner if you have concerns.
