The Benefits Of Going To Your Own Doctor Versus Going To The Emergency Room
Sometimes you get really sick and need to see a doctor right away. Many times you end up going to the emergency room because it just seems easier to walk in and be seen. However, there are more reasons to visit your own doctor when you are sick than there are to walking into an emergency room. Here are the benefits of going to your own doctor versus going to the emergency room.
Your Doctor Knows You Better
Your doctor knows you better than the emergency room doctors. Because of this, he or she may be able to provide you with a better quality of care. When you are sick, you need high quality care to make you feel better. This is especially true if you have something as private as an STD. For this reason, you would be better off going to your own doctor than walking into an emergency walk in clinic or any other STD testing clinics. If you have an STD, you want your own doctor to care for you so you won’t feel as embarrassed about it.
You Won’t Have To Wait As Long
When walking to a free walk in clinic or an emergency room, it is first come first serve. However, if you visit your own family health clinic, you are seen by appointment. Making an appointment for visiting your doctor is better because of this. Besides, when walking into STD testing clinics, if you are afraid you have one, can mean sitting there for hours to be taken back to the room, then waiting another half hour to an hour to be seen. Then, you have to wait another half hour to an hour or more for the test results to come back. Instead of doing all of this, why not visit your own family quick care where they know you and will not only take the time to talk to you, but they may not make you wait as long as those other STD testing clinics.
May Not Cost You As Much
Visiting your own family care physicians may not cost you as much as those walk in STD testing clinics will. The STD testing clinics bill you for everything you do there and everything they do for you there. On the other hand, if you have your own family health care, they will bill them instead of you. However, if you don’t have any family health care plans available at the time but you still choose to visit your own doctor, it still might not cost you as much, if anything at all. Or, they may even let you make payments if it does cost you a certain amount. Either way, you are better off visiting your own doctor instead of going to the emergency room or one of those STD testing clinics where they don’t know you at all.
Did you know the mean wait time in emergency rooms back between the years of 2003 to 2009 increased by one quarter. This means the wait time went from 46.5 minutes to 58.1 minutes. Not only this, but according to the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, it costs an average visitor when visiting the emergency room a total of $1,318 with a mean cost of $615.
