Improving Health Awareness with Charts and Other Items
Good health is something that anyone would want, and today, there are many instructional courses, classes, charts, items, and more to make good health clear to any audience. Teenagers can learn about their own changing anatomy and learn about sexual development and how to avoid dangerous behavior, and new parents can find out exactly how and why children learn the way they do, and the dangers of smoking and alcohol abuse can be made clear to anyone with the right diagrams or models. Drunk glasses, for example, teach about the dangers of drinking in excess, while a smokers mouth model can show tobacco’s harmful effects on the body, and a male anatomy chart and a female anatomy chart can help teach sex ed.
Working with Science
College students around the world can take classes that teach STEM, or science, technology, engineering, and math, and find careers in these fields. Currently, the world’s forerunner for STEM graduates is Korea, which boasts a 38% rate of graduates going into STEM. American college students, however, choose STEM at a rate of 16% (this puts the United States in 38th place out of the top 40 countries for graduating STEM majors). Going into this general field can be highly lucrative for an economy, since the U.S. Department of Labor believes that STEM workers can contribute 50% of an economy’s strength, while only 5% of the American workforce pursues STEM.
Teaching Health
Professionals in STEM can go a long way to teaching health to nearly any audience on a wide range of topics. Visual aids such as charts, models, and colored diagrams can help and make the information clear and engaging to the audience. What can be taught?
Health hazards can be taught to anyone, usually starting in the teenage years when people become more likely to be tempted by this behavior. Drunk glasses, for example, can warn students of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption. Drunk glasses, once worn, can simulate the impairing effects of alcohol use, such as disorientation, blurry vision, loss of balance, double vision, and more. Even trying to cross a living room or using simple tools can be difficult with drunk glasses on, and a person should not even try to drive a car with drunk glasses on, for the same reason an actually intoxicated person should not do so. Smoking tobacco is another dangerous health behavior that can be warned against, and a smoking chart or a diagram or model of smokers mouth can showcase the hazards of tobacco. Discolored teeth area just the start; damaged gums and increased risks of cancer are the worst effects.
On a different note, teenagers can be taught sex ed with the aid of anatomical charts and models for both boys and girls. Girls will learn about breast development, the beginning of the ovulation and menstrual cycle, and how pregnancy works. Often, the sex ed class for girls will warn about unintended teen pregnancy and how to avoid it, as well as pregnancy prevention methods such as birth control pills or abstinence. Boys will learn about their own sexual development such as the development of the penis and testicles, as well as the function of the prostate gland. Boys, like girls, will learn about the hazards of unintended pregnancy and STDs and how to avoid them, such as condoms or simple abstinence. The male reproductive system labeled can serve as a visual aid to this. Both sexes will learn about their own bodies in simple and honest terms and learn to be comfortable and well informed about their own bodies, so they can make responsible choices about their health and lifestyle.
Child development is something for new parents to learn about. The human brain grows and develops rapidly during the first six years of life, and gross motor engagement and practice are central to a child’s mental development. In fact, a child denied physical play with others or toys will have diminished brain power later in life. Parents can learn better how to nurture and foster their child’s brain and motor skills, as well as language and getting along with others.
